Dana Ridenour a finalist in prestigious national book competition

Dana, of Murrells Inlet, submitted her first novel along with 1400 other entrants and now she is one of the 3 finalists for the Gold or Silver Award for new fiction authors at the Ben Franklin Book Competition.  She will be signing her book Behind The Mask at the Art Works Festival in the Litchfield Exchange Building (behind Applewoods restaurant) this Saturday, March 25 from 2 to 5 pm

Y.A.M. (Youth Art Month) Competition

Each year, roughly 100 K-12 local art students compete to go onto the statewide competition where there are cash awards to the winners.  There was an intermediate school student from our area that won last year.  Here are some of the top entrants from this year…such talent!   Jen Pierce, MB HS art teacher and coordinator of the competition.  

Annual Academy of Arts Senior Show

Youth Art Month (Y.A.M.) is a national celebration in the month of March. To celebrate the arts in our community, Conway Glass is hosting the S.C. Eastern Region Y.A.M. Art Show March 10th – 16th. Jen Pierce with Horry County Schools has organized this outstanding event with 25 schools in three counties participating. Over 120 works of art will be on display. Come see student artwork ranging from painting and sculpture to cut paper, found objects and much more. New literary group forming!

Vibes, a regular poet at Fresh Brewed started day one and I personally would like to keep that artist community spirit alive and active. More on the Art Museum’s fabric-rich exhibitions

To complement the Art Museum’s fabric-rich exhibitions – Gee’s Bend: From Quilts to Prints and  Stitchin’ and Pullin’: Painted Illustrations by Cozbi Cabrera  – the Art Museum is proud to present 12 works from our rich Permanent Collections, pieces that  reference and explore fabric and other forms of fiber in a variety of ways. Included in The Fabric of Our Collection is Burgess, The Legacy, a photo-collage quilt by Carolynne Miller and three works by Jonathan Green. This exhibition  is open through April 23, 2017.
