Art & Music Exhibition coming Mar 24

Daila Levy, an art student at HGTC is putting together an evening of art for sale with musical performance Fri, Mar. 24, 5-9pm at the Fresh Brewed Coffee House, 933 Broadway St. downtown (next to City Hall).  It will be her first of hopefully many to come events in our revitalizing downtown.

Myrtle Beach’s inaugural First Friday Artwalk took place Friday, March 3.  It was a big success with a great turnout, interesting diverse art, generous food and drink and warm comaraderie.  Thank you to Carl Kerridge for most of these photos. CCU students perform with Carolina Master Chorale

Six CCU students recently performed four concerts with the Carolina Master Chorale, the premiere symphonic chorus in the region, Feb. 10-12. The student performers were winners of the Carolina Master Chorale/Coastal Carolina University Student Vocal Competition, held in November 2017. Student performers included seniors Whitney Daniels, a vocal performance major; Francesca Brown, Brian Bruno, Paige Mason, and Corey Ryan, all BFA musical theater majors; and junior Sarah Parker, a BFA musical theater major. The Chamber Orchestra Club welcomes OLLI members who play instruments suited to Chamber music. This would include: violin, viola, cello, bass and possibly flute or other wind instruments. TheArtsGrandStrand receives grant from the SC Arts Commission

(Murrells Inlet, Dec. 20, 2016) Myrtle Beach Cultural Calendar, a non profit corp., has been awarded a second $1,000 Quarterly Grant by the South Carolina Arts Commission funded in part by a generous award from the John and Susan Bennett Memorial Arts Fund of the Coastal Community Foundation of SC. for the 2017 fiscal year. There is an unnerving surprise at the start of this show. It is Mark Rothko’s self-portrait. The artist of those numinous veils of colour, his aims (and his rhetoric) so transcendent, turns out to be a big lug in a brown jacket who can’t draw his painting hand and botches his mouth. He is wearing tinted spectacles.
